Call To Action
So, as we said earlier, we need your help! SXSW in Austin is one of the best music conferences in the world for independent artists and we will be trying to see as many acts as possible during our time there. We've been listening to the official sxsw radio, looking through show listings, and scouring other blogs and websites for day parties and unofficial shows, but with so many things going on, there's bound to be things we're missing.
We are incredibly lucky to be able to go to this festival for WRBB, so we want to make the best of it. This is where you come in. Check out SXSW's official list of bands here and tell us anyone who you think we need to see and why! ANY and ALL of your comments will be appreciated!
To get things started, below is a list of who we are excited about on our first glances at the main listings:
Dan:
Abstract Rude
Cage
Cursive
The Hold Steady
Marcy Playground
P.O.S.
Reflection Eternal
Third Eye Blind
The Thermals
Yak Ballz
Marybeth:
Bishop Allen
Andrew Bird
Black Lips
Camera Obscura
THE DECEMBERISTS
Earlimart
Okkervil River
Superdrag
The Thermals
The Wrens

Hi guys! Well, I know Electronic/Dance is not your thing, but in the interest of expanding your horizons and/or becoming more well-rounded individuals, I would recommend Holy Ghost! They are contemporaries of Cut Copy (they've remixed each others' stuff), and they're generally pretty awesome. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteBrian!! You win the contest for first commenter! As your reward you may come over and cook us dinner.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to that, I keep hearing good things about Cut Copy, so I think it's time I checked out both those groups.
see dirty projectors. there really isn't much more to it. i'll send you albums if you want. just make a point of seeing dave longstreth do what he does.
ReplyDeletei would avoid third eye blind unless you really like the toilet-flush-like spiral their music took. or unless you're a very forgiving fan. in which case, you should be proud of your infinite forgiveness.
ReplyDeletealso Iran is great & project jenny, project jan put on a fun show if you're into that kind of thing
ReplyDeleteregarding third eye blind, call it a guilty pleasure if you must, but i'd be lying if i said i wasn't excited to see them
ReplyDeletei definitely want to go see dirty projectors, though i'm not too familiar with their music. i'll have to check out project jenny, project jan -- i feel so unhip, i've never heard of them!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I think I'm lost, what happened to the Microsoft flaming fanboy page I was just looking at... In all seriousness enjoy, it sounds like a lot of fun. I'm unhip and have heard of very few of the bands but do me a favor and try and find just one that doesn't hate the country.

not knowing project jenny, project jan doesn't mean you missed the hip train. they were pretty unknown until recently when they appeared in nick & nora's infinite playlist. i saw them when puttin' on the ritz played a show. they were opening for project jenny, project jan. it was a fun show. they're like a cool datarock maybe?
ReplyDeleteanyway, here's their album:

Dan, Cut Copy will be at HOB on March 22nd, but you guys won't be back yet :( oh, and dinner will be at OUR house, and my reward? Score me a SXSW t-shirt!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear the cool new music you experience. You both ALWAYS turn me onto great new music. (I do appreciate your editing out stuff you KNOW I won't like so much.;o) As you well know: so much music, so little time.
